Suining City is located in the middle of Sichuan Basin and the middle reaches of Fu River. It is an important part of Chengdu Plain Economic Zone. It governs Chuanshan and Anju Districts and Pengxi and Daying Counties, and administers Shehong City. It has three independent accounting parks, namely National Economic and Technological Development Zone, Hedong New District and High-tech Industrial Park, with a total of 75 towns and 20 streets. It covers an area of 5,322 square kilometers, with a registered population of 3.5312 million, 7,643 party organizations and 151,406 party members.
Suining has a long history and rich cultural heritage. Suining was established as a city in 1985. Its name originated from the Eastern Jin Dynasty general Huan Wen’s conquest of Shu, implying “the end of war and peace”. It has nurtured a group of outstanding talents such as Chen Ziang, Wang Zhuo, Huang E, Zhang Penghe, and Zhang Wentao. It is known as a giant city in Dongchuan, an important town in central Sichuan, and a land of literary talents.
Rich in products and resources. There are more than 1,500 species of biological resources discovered and used in the territory, including more than 1,000 species of plant resources and 681 cultivated varieties of crops. It is an important production base for grain, oil, live pigs, fruits, and Chinese medicinal materials in Sichuan Province. The reserves of natural gas, brine and other resources are rich, and the prospective reserves of natural gas exceed 3 trillion cubic meters. It has the largest single marine carbonate rock gas reservoir on land in the country, with an annual natural gas output of more than 10 billion cubic meters. The conventional natural gas output accounts for nearly one-third of the province, ranking first in the province.
Beautiful scenery and environment. Suining is a typical hilly area with an altitude of 215-674 meters. The Fu River runs through the entire territory and the city, forming a 14.8 square kilometer Guanyin Lake in the central urban area, forming an urban ecological and park system of “one river, seven rivers, nine lakes”, “two mountains, four islands and eight wetlands”, and a unique landscape of “city in water and water in city”. It has successfully established a national civilized city and a national sanitary city. It is the only prefecture-level city in the western region that is the first batch of national sponge city construction pilot cities, the first batch of national green travel cities, and the first batch of park city construction pilot cities in the province.
Unique location and convenient transportation. Suining is an important node city and comprehensive transportation hub between Chengdu and Chongqing. It has built 243 kilometers of “3 directions and 7 lines” of railways and 386 kilometers of “1 ring and 9 radials” of expressways, realizing four-way high-speed connections in the east, west, south and north, forming the central axis of Cheng-Suining-Chongqing Expressway, the northern ring line of the Cheng-Chongqing Economic Zone Expressway and the 75-kilometer ring expressway around the city, and building a 90-minute traffic circle to Chengdu, Chongqing and surrounding cities. The construction of the Cheng-Da-Wan high-speed railway and the expansion of the Chengnan Expressway in Suining has started, and the Mian-Suining section of the Mian-Suining-Nei Railway, the expansion of the Suining-Chongqing Expressway, and the resumption of flights on the Fu River have been accelerated. Suining Anju Airport has been fully completed and successfully tested.

In 2023, the GDP will reach 171.497 billion yuan, an increase of 6.7%, ranking 6th in the province. In the first quarter of 2024, the GDP will reach 38.808 billion yuan, an increase of 7.1%, ranking 9th in the province. From January to May, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 9%, ranking 11th in the province, fixed asset investment increased by 9.6%, ranking 9th in the province, industrial electricity consumption increased by 10.6%, ranking 6th in the province, and the balance of deposits and loans of financial institutions increased by 14.9%, ranking 2nd in the province.
